SMDM CUSA’s Yard Sale in San Miguel, Bulacan was launched in late April 2011 under the leadership of Committee Chairwomen Jane Santiago and Edith Doyogan. This project, aimed at raising extra funds to support our various undertakings, was executed by local volunteers in our hometown namely Wilma Garcia, Medi and Alex Tecson of Poblacion and Neneng Tayag of Sibul Springs. SMDM CUSA sponsored a medical mission at Sta. Inez, San Miguel, Bulacan in coordination with Kapitan and Mrs. Bong Alvarez and the Sanguniang Barangay of Sta. Inez. The medical mission was undertaken on August 14, 2011. SMDM was fully supported by a team of San Migueleno doctors made up of Dr. Edwin Tecson and Dr. Jing Aure along with her invited medical professionals from UERM. Civilian volunteers were made up of our own Treasurer, Gerly Soberano who happened to be visiting the Philippines as a balikbayan, Medi and Alex Tecson, Vanesza Dino of BPC and our BPC scholars. In our quest to enlist support in advancing our mission, specifically, the construction of The San Miguel Youth Center, we have encountered questions (from interested parties, pundits and critics) as to why we are doing this project considering the enormous required investment. Some have commented why we don’t just use the funds and build toilets and install potable water systems in every public school, or send more scholars to post-secondary education.
